Are you missing one or more teeth and looking to restore your smile? If you’d like to regain the beauty and function of your teeth and mouth, dental bridges may be the answer. Bridges are a common and relatively simple method of replacing missing teeth, and can provide the solution you’re looking for years to come. The professionals at Complete Dental Care can answer your questions and help you to determine if dental bridges are the right fit for you.

Understanding Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are permanent solutions for missing teeth, and unlike dentures they cannot be taken out and put in at will. They are often compared to dental implants, but are different because they rely on supporting teeth for their structure instead of an implant into the jawbone. Dental bridges consist of crowns that replace the missing teeth, as well as supporting structures that are connected to the adjacent teeth. Whether teeth are missing due to a tooth extraction, trauma, or any other reason, replacing the tooth or teeth with a dental bridge, implant, or other structure is important to keep surrounding teeth from shifting out of place and causing further problems.

What Happens When I Get a Dental Bridge?

The process of getting a dental bridge typically takes two to three appointments with our professionals at Complete Dental Care. You can expect us to make your comfort and care our top priority every step of the way. Here’s what will take place:

Consultation. We’ll have a consultation and analysis of your mouth and determine whether dental bridges are the best solution for you.

Preparation. The teeth around the empty space (called abutment teeth) are gently reshaped to make room for the dental bridge.

Impression. We take an impression of your teeth, which will be sent to a lab where your dental bridge will be made.

Temporary bridge. In the meantime, you’ll have a temporary bridge placed to protect your exposed gums and teeth.

Fitting. At your next appointment, the temporary bridge will be removed and your new permanent bridge will be checked for proper fit. Any necessary adjustments will be made at this time.

Maintenance. We’ll instruct you on how to care for your new dental bridge before sending you on your way. This will include avoiding certain foods for a short while to allow the cement to harden, regular brushing and flossing, and visiting our office for routine checkups and cleanings.

Do I Need a Dental Bridge?

If you’re missing a tooth (or multiple teeth), dental bridges may be the solution for you. Dental bridges can be a great option for people who are not candidates for dental implants because they don’t have enough bone density or are not healthy enough for surgery. Bridges can also be a more affordable solution than implants. If you want to restore the appearance or function of your smile and protect your dental health, you should definitely consider a dental bridge.
